Summer Begins

June 14th, 2009 by professorkliq

A lot has happened since my last desperate post. I do appreciate the support from all of you folks, I was surprised at how many comments I got. All very kind and thoughtful words, and it did make me feel better. It’s easy to lose sight when you’re so heavily embedded in it. For those who were interested, school turned out just fine. Let’s be shameful about it!

College Algebra: C

Intro To Audio: B -

Production I: B+ (Are you fucking kidding me!? I destroyed that class…)

Arabic I: B+ (Are you fucking kidding me!? I failed every test…)

So there are my grades. Funny how that worked out! I’m really glad it went as well as it did considering how truly rocky it was in the midst of all of it. Now that summer is here, there’s going to be some shows but hopefully working on more tracks. I’m in the process of working on a remix for one of the bands from my home town called “The Glide”. I’ll post that once I’m finished with it… the song itself, “Ashes”, has a pretty profound meaning to Darius the lead singer… and if it means what I think it does, it’s profound to me as well.

Since my last post I had a trip to Las Vegas with my new girlfriend and her friends. Holy crap that was a blast. I won’t go too much into that, but I’ll just say I wish I was still there and with the same people.

So anyway. If you look me up on Vimeo.com you’ll find a lot of what I’ve been used in lately. I was astonished to find all of it today… sometimes I’ll search for myself to get an indication as to the traffic I see (as that’s really the payment when you’re a CC artist) and I was pleasently surprised. You’ll also find a fantastic music video done by Harald Walker of one of the deeper album cuts off “The Scientific Method: Vol. 2″ called “Trip Home”.

Oh yeah. Here it is.

Professor Kliq – Trip Home from Harald Walker on Vimeo.

This might be the best video so far, but Bruno’s work on “Dream Sequence” still blows me away.

Let me take a moment to tell you how incredibly honored I am that anyone puts in the time and energy into making videos of these tracks:

I am incredibly honored that anyone puts in the time and energy into make videos for these tracks. There. It’s been said. I never thought in a million years that I would ever make it even this far or that anyone would value what I do enough to inspire them. Having been connected with the world the way I have over the last year, thanks to my manager Dan Costalis, I’ve gotten results and made connections that will permanently affect the outcome of my pursuit to… well… “make it”. That anyone even reads this blog just melts my heart completely, and I thank you personally as you read this.

Playing shows has been good too. We’ve played… man… since that Reggie’s post? Braydon and I have done 4 shows… Oasis Cafe (total joke), The Cobra Lounge, Rednofive, and North Beach back home. The last three went really well. Rednofive was a result of playing at Reggie’s. The right guy happened to be there at the right time and we got to play for Hairborn Fashion’s Hair Wars victory party. Dave Ragona, thank you. Great fuckin’ guy. We then opened for The Glide at Cobra Lounge, Fantastic Mammals at Oasis Cafe and Bad With Names at North Beach. All great bands, all great guys. We’ve been pretty lucky with the groups we’ve been playing with.

Anyway, I’ll cut this off here I suppose. Things are going pretty well for now… licensing deals left and right and yet ANOTHER music video on it’s way from France… I’m not sure how long it will take, but hopefully French Guy Lucas will hook it up. I’ll keep you folks updated, but I’ll tell you now it’s for “Plastic & Flashing Lights” and it looks and sounds like it’s going to be absolutely bad ass.

Thanks for reading. All of you out there are a huge reason as to why I stick to what I do in here.

Jam Session

December 13th, 2008 by professorkliq

I know I haven’t posted anything in quite some time, but give me a break – school has been particularly hectic and the whole moving out situation and getting a loan… ugh. It’s been tough, but the dust is about to settle. To give you folks a little taste, my good buddy Whitney Millikan and I got down with a little jam session a week or so ago.

It was just her on her drums, me plugged into Adam McAmis’ stereo down in the basement with my laptop and Axiom 61. We jammed for a good long while, took a Halo break, then recorded an 18 minute track… so go get a snack or something before you put this on.

Thanks for Donations!

November 23rd, 2008 by professorkliq

To anyone who has donated to my paypal account, I’d just like to say thank you. You helped knock off $20 of my heater core that I need for my Cutlass… otherwise this would be an awful winter, what without heat in my car and all. So thank you all so much, in case you were wondering if that money went to drugs or not.

Also, I plan to upload two sets of tracks. Does anyone have any preferences as to which tracks they’d like to remix off of SM2?

Remix

November 18th, 2008 by professorkliq

I haven’t had much time to work on anything new, and I know this blog isn’t super huge or anything, but would anyone be interested in remixing a work of mine? Particularly off the most recent album (as I’m able to get the tracks easiest that way).

Any takers? Just for shits and giggles?

The Korg DS-10

November 10th, 2008 by professorkliq

So I waited since July for this little number to come out, but it just took forever. Finally I saw that it was coming out the 4th, it arrived at my house on the 6th. This little bastard is a cartridge that’s being sold for the Nintendo DS (an awesome system, I love Mario Kart). The unique thing about the DS is the touch screen and the level of ergonomic accessbility.

This program simulates a Korg MS-10 from 1978 and incorporates some slightly newer control functions from KORG like the Kaoss pad which creates somewhat randomized phrases within certain designated parameters. All in all, it is very cool, and while I haven’t found a specific niche for it yet, I’m sure it will come in handy somewhere along the line.

In the meantime, I recorded myself with the DS-10 onto my Zoom H4 which led as an audio i/o to my laptop. If you have a DS, hopefully this will motivate you to go out and buy it. It’s spectacular.

Audiosurf

November 5th, 2008 by professorkliq

So a few of you guys posted comments about how you heard me on Audiosurf. I had no idea what this was… I figured it was just another internet radio that got a hold of my stuff from Jamendo or somewhere else. Obviously, I’m incredibly wrong. I only took a look at the website and made contact with Dylan Fitterer, wondering if there were any videos people made of them playing to my tracks. Unfortunately there weren’t, so he bestowed upon me a complimentary press key and I began playing.

This blog is called My Advice, so take some of it:

BUY THIS FUCKING GAME.

Steam is currently having a 75% off sale for it, so it’s only $2.50 USD. I really suggest it, because it is completely awesome in every way. Anyone who heard my stuff on Audiosurf I’m sure can agree… and it’s not just because my shit was on the radio.

Check it out: www.audio-surf.com

On a side note, thanks again to all you guys who posted on my last blog entry. In response to Caleb’s comment: Thanks for the video with Kanye and Daft Punk. It was kind of lame how they crammed them into that tiny pyramid and they were only up there for like 40 seconds, but it was still awesome. As for their approach to doing a live show, I can’t even tell you what that touch screen was called. I’ve never seen that before, but I would hope those guys are at the forefront of that stuff. Just add more keyboards basically. I don’t know.

I don’t know.

Thanks again!

The Aftermath

October 24th, 2008 by professorkliq

Well, after having had some time to react to the way people are digesting the new album, I’ve already been racking my brain with what the approach to the next album is going to be. School is going to have to take priority for the next few months, but once I move out, music and school will be much closer together. I can say that live performance will be factored in without a doubt.

In the mean time, I’m sure there are a few folks out there that might have questions as to how The Scientific Method, Volume II came to be, particularly some of the ins and outs of the pieces on the album. So here’s a chance to ask questions, I guess?

Frankly this is just a test to see if anyone visits the site. So ask away.

Well, here it is.

Hello kiddies. Today is the day that we finally implement a blog to keep you guys entertained. This is just the first post, but this will be a good way to show you guys how things happen and almost as they happen. This will also be where I keep you posted, whether you like it or not, as to how music and education are going (as they’re becoming one in the same these days).

I’ve been getting a lot of hits over the last few days and they’ve been from all over the world. I felt a marked sense of urgency to get something cool up for you guys to see. Coming soon? I’ll have some interesting stuff up here for you guys to eat up.

Thank you all so much for your support.

Study hard,

Kliq
